The spelling given in the chart below reflects pronunciations learned in the other sections of this pronunciation guide. Note that "ê" is pronounced like the "ay" in say without the "y" glide, "é" like the "e" in set, and that "qu" makes only the sound of "k" in kid before "e" or "i". Also noteworthy: the Portuguese alphabet does not traditionally include k, w, or y, but the influx of (mainly English) loanwords requires their inclusion in the modern alphabet. Enjoy!
